I am, and always have been, a naturalist at heart. I’ve also loved photography for a good long time. I have a degree in biology, a life-long desire to learn, curiosity about many things, and penchant for getting up and out the door early to walk the trails around my home valley- and sometimes beyond.
When I look back on my life, I realize that I have always been a practitioner of Kachoufugetsu, the Japanese concept that translates to ‘flower, bird, wind, moon’. It’s a centuries philosophy that encourages people to appreciate nature and discover themselves in the process
I’m out with my Labrador and or a family member or two several times every day and I am rarely without a camera. Helena is on a major migratory flyway, so spring and fall offer spectacular birding opportunities. In the spring, summer, and fall, the wildflower viewing is amazing. In the winter, we endure. We get outside everyday despite the cold and wind – and we count down the days until springtime.
This site is a repository of my images from getting outside every day and celebrating the amazing beauty of Montana’s natural history.
